Things to do in Alwarpet

Alwarpet is the sabha belt of central Chennai. TTK Road runs through it from the Music Academy, at the junction with Cathedral Road and Dr Radhakrishnan Salai, down to Narada Gana Sabha, and during the December season the stretch between the two is the busiest concert corridor in the city. The rest of the year the same halls take Tamil and English theatre, dance recitals and touring comedy. Medai – The Stage, a black-box room in Sri Ram Nagar, hosts stand-up, improv and small plays. The area is also dense with cafés and restaurants. There is no station inside Alwarpet; Teynampet on the Blue Line is the usual drop-off.
