Things to do in Adyar

Adyar, south of the river of the same name, is a leafy residential district with a steady run of small cultural events. The Theosophical Society has had its world headquarters here since 1882, on wooded grounds that include a banyan tree said to be about 450 years old. Tholkappia Poonga, an eco-park on the estuary, runs guided nature visits. Cafés, bookshops, dance schools and studios around Gandhi Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Indira Nagar host workshops, open mics, storytelling sessions and children's classes most weekends. Adyar is also the gateway to Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur. The MRTS stations at Kasturba Nagar and Indira Nagar sit along its western edge.
