The Music Academy is the best-known institution of Carnatic music and the anchor of Chennai's December season. Founded in 1928, it grew out of a music festival held alongside the 1927 Congress session in Madras. Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of its building at the head of TTK Road in 1955, and the main T. T. For the December season, the Academy sells season tickets online until 10 December and daily tickets from two days before each concert. The morning academic sessions and the early-afternoon concerts by younger artistes have traditionally been free. There is no metro station next door. Take the Blue Line to AG-DMS or Teynampet and an auto from there; parking inside the campus fills early. The canteen on the grounds during the season is part of the experience. Go between the afternoon and evening concerts.
