Things to do in Park Town & Periamet

The area around Chennai Central station holds the city's large government sports venues. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sydenhams Road, rebuilt in 1993 with about 40,000 seats, is Chennaiyin FC's home ground in the Indian Super League and takes athletics meets and occasional concerts. The adjoining Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, built in 1995 with around 8,000 seats, hosts kabaddi, basketball, large film-music shows and conventions. South across the Cooum, Island Grounds stages the state's India Tourist and Industrial Fair from roughly January to March, plus circuses and exhibitions. Central metro station, where the Blue and Green Lines meet, is within walking distance of both stadiums.
