Things to do in East Coast Road (ECR)

The East Coast Road starts at Thiruvanmiyur and follows the Bay of Bengal south towards Mahabalipuram and Puducherry. The stretch as far as Mahabalipuram is Chennai's weekend strip. Cholamandal Artists' Village in Injambakkam, founded in 1966, has a museum of the Madras Movement and galleries. Further on are the VGP amusement parks, beach houses and lounges at Akkarai and Uthandi, the Muttukadu boathouse, the DakshinaChitra heritage museum, Kovalam's surf beach and the Madras Crocodile Bank. Beach resorts host ticketed parties, gigs and New Year's Eve nights. The Chennai Marathon finishes at the Indian Maritime University in Uthandi. There is no railway; buses, cabs or your own vehicle are the options.
