Things to do in Velachery

Velachery grew from a lakeside suburb into south Chennai's retail centre, and Phoenix Marketcity is the reason most people come. The mall on Velachery Main Road opened in January 2013 with about a million square feet of retail, an 11-screen multiplex that includes the city's first IMAX, and the luxury Palladium wing next door. Its courtyard and atrium host concerts, stand-up shows, flea markets, festive décor and New Year countdowns through the year. Pallikaranai marsh, to the south, is one of Chennai's best birdwatching sites in winter. Velachery MRTS station, linked through to St. Thomas Mount since March 2026, is about two kilometres from the mall.
