About Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium
The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium stands next to the outdoor Nehru Stadium on Sydenhams Road, a short walk from Chennai Central. Built in 1995 at a cost of about ₹20 crore, it seats around 8,000 and hosted the World Volleyball Grand Prix in 1998; a later refurbishment added a skating rink. It is the home venue of Tamil Thalaivas in the Pro Kabaddi League and takes basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton tournaments. Because it is a large air-conditioned arena in the city centre, it is also booked for film audio launches, award shows, film-music concerts and large conventions. Events here are run by many different organisers, so entry gates, seating blocks and security rules change from show to show.
