About Vani Mahal
Vani Mahal on G.N. Chetty Road is the home of Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, a T. Nagar institution founded in 1944. The original auditorium was demolished and rebuilt, and the present air-conditioned complex has three halls of different sizes, which lets the sabha run a concert, a play and a lecture on the same evening. It is one of the main stages for Tamil theatre: many of the city's amateur and professional drama troupes premiere their plays here, and comedy plays draw full houses on weekends. The sabha also presents Carnatic concerts, Bharatanatyam recitals and devotional discourses through the year, runs a packed schedule in the December season, and rents its halls to outside organisers for stand-up shows and school events.
