About Semmozhi Poonga
Semmozhi Poonga is a 20-acre botanical garden at the junction of Cathedral Road and Anna Salai, opposite the United States Consulate. It was opened on 24 November 2010 on land that once belonged to the Agri-Horticultural Society and for decades housed the Woodlands Drive-In restaurant. The garden is laid out in themed sections with a pond, walking paths and several hundred plant species, and is run by the state horticulture department; flower shows have been held here. It is open from 10 am to 8 pm with a ₹15 entry fee for visitors over ten, admits walkers on a monthly pass from 6 to 8 am, and is closed on Tuesdays. Kalaignar Centenary Park is directly across the road.
