About Kalaignar Centenary Park
Kalaignar Centenary Park is the newest large park in central Chennai, opened on 7 October 2024 to mark the birth centenary of former chief minister M. Karunanidhi. It covers 13.29 acres on Cathedral Road in Gopalapuram, opposite Semmozhi Poonga and a few metres from the Anna Flyover; the foundation stone had been laid only that February. Unlike a conventional garden it is built around paid attractions: a zipline across the grounds, a walk-through aviary, a glass garden housing rare plants and an evening musical fountain show. General entry is ₹100 for adults and ₹50 for children, and the zipline, aviary, glass garden, fountain show and photography are charged separately. It has quickly become a standard weekend stop for families.
